I am writing to say why I breed the American Bulldog, and also to describe the line and type that I breed. I breed the John D. Johnson Classic. This is the large heavyweight. I first became acquainted with the American Bulldog at a very young age growing up in South Georgia. They were known then as White English. His name was Sam. He was solid white. Sam was a true warrior. He never backed down from anything. He was all heart, and he loved his family. He was true to the breed. He would catch and hold anything he was put on. He especially loved my younger brother and me. We could ride him, and even pull his tail while he ate. My mother would have to take us into the house when she punished us. Otherwise, Sam would growl and come between Mom and us. Now, this was over sixty years ago. At that time, things had not changed that much from the bulldog's sense. They were brought over in the 1700's. Sam was used to catch wild and unruly livestock. He was also a good rabbit dog. We had open range in South Georgia at that time, which meant you needed a dog like Sam. Now, as everyone knows, that way of life has changed. Crews' American Bulldogs don't look like Sam. They are much larger. I breed the John D. Johnson Classic, which is different only in size. They have the same temperament, heart and love for the family. The Johnson American Bulldog is the most intelligent and intimidating bulldog I know. If a man or woman wants to look good and be safe from the bad guys, you need the John D. Johnson Heavyweight - the most awesome macho bulldog I know of. This is why I breed them. Crews' American Bulldogs had its beginning back in '91 after I returned from a tour of duty in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. Thought we would breed just a litter or two, as a hobby. Well, it mushroomed and we've been working hard at this "hobby" for over fifteen years now. Generally, we maintain an inventory of six to eight adult dogs - all JDJ. We register everything with the Animal Research Foundation, do only line breeding, and don't like to have more than two litters a year. Crew's American Bulldogs are shown by appointment only, please. Our slogan is - "If we wouldn't want to own it, we won't sell it." Hoyett & Ann Crews Crews'
