Starting with a brief history of the Australian Cattle Dog (or Blue Heeler) it
guides you through proper care and housing, choosing the right dog, terms and
definitions, and basic training ... right up to making your dog a valuable
helper as well as a faithful companion.
Mari Shaffer has been training herding dogs for 15 years, the last eight of them professionally. She and her husband have run a professional livestock gathering business, using dogs, and they have shown dogs in numerous herding trials. Mari Shaffer trained the 1979 W.C.C. Working Champion and the 1980 Reserve Champion. She has also taught herding training clinics in several states, and from these classes came the 1981 and 1982 W.C.C. Cowdog Champions. In addition to her work with Australian Cattle Dogs, Mari Shaffer has trained champion Border Collies and Australian Shepherds. She presently lives in Issaquah, Washington.
